Mala Sichuan Bistro is one of the top Sichuan cuisine restaurants in Houston, TX. It has won many awards like James Beard Award, Eater Houston Essential, and Houston Chronicle Top 100. As a locals' favorite restaurant for the past ten years, Mala shares its long history with many institutions like Houston Chinatown, Southern Foodways Alliance, and Museum of Chinese in America (NY).

Project Process
In early 2021, Mala Sichuan Bistro needed promotion plans for online and offline brand exposure to increase sales. To achieve that goal, I interviewed the client about the brand's messages and current design problems. Regarding the design process, I first coordinated Mala's new yearly promotional calendar with the content from the marketing team.
In February, I collaborated with Mala's illustrator for the lunar new year celebration and created this themed poster for their social media and email ads. The printed version was also in four Mala's restaurants in Houston, TX.
From March 2021, I maintained Mala's modern aesthetics while customizing posters for seasonal events. To help elderly Chinese customers read more quickly, I incorporated the Chinese keywords into some traditional designs and formulated different reading hierarchies for Chinese/English preferred readers.
To let the marketing and social media team have a smoother launching process, I delivered every design half a month ahead according to the schedule.
